Choreography for Patter Teaching with Singing Call Options:

Teaching Tips:

Promenade Family
A.) Circle right, drop hands but keep walking this direction single file.
B.) Boys step up along the inside of the girls in front walking side by side.
C.) Shake right hands introduce each other; don’t let go, join left hands underneath with boy palms up, girl palms down, fingertips pointing away from the body.

More teaching suggestions:

— Circle Right in single file, the trailing dancers move forward inside to stand beside their partners. Partners reach over and shake right hands, then join left hands underneath. Walk forward and you are Promenading.

— Or: In Static Square or Big Circle, first explain that Promenade direction is to the right. Then partners face, shake right hands, join left hands under, and while holding hands the couple turns as a unit to face toward their right, Promenade.

— Or: Circle Right, you are now moving counter-clockwise, all face the center, Forward and Back, gents go forward and turn to face partner, shake right hands, join lefts under, swivel bodies to face counter-clockwise (toward lady’s right and gent’s left), Promenade

— Especially in a singing call, Promenade Home is usually more than a quarter of the way around the set. If not, dancers are often expected to add a full promenade. Callers should make it clear what is desired.

Global view: Couples move as a unit counter-clockwise. Normally the gent is inside and the lady is outside.

Quick quote: “Shake hands, join lefts under, go the right way around”
